Rabbi Wucher Donates Hundreds of Books to Marshall University's Jewish Studies CollectionMarch 17, 2013
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University's Jewish Studies Collection is several hundred books richer this year, thanks to the generosity of Rabbi David Wucher, retired rabbi from B'nai Sholom Congregation and Jewish Studies instructor at Marshall. Wucher has donated several hundred books to the collection, so many that the university is hosting a reception in his honor from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 4, on the third floor of the John Deaver Drinko Library. Rabbi Eglinton and President of Marshall University Dr. Kopp Celebrating and Supporting Israel at B'nai Sholom SynagogueSpotlight: Jewish Community With little money in the bank, Samuel and Rachel Glaser bought all the inventory of a small rummage store along 3rd Avenue in Huntington in 1946 following World War II.
Beginning with their guidance, the Glaser Furniture Co. would become the longest-operating family-owned furniture store in the city. Their sons, Norman and Herman, have carried on the tradition since the 1960s but are looking to a time when they can hand the business over to another member of the Glaser family. Now, 63 years after the store was opened, Norman's son Howard Glaser has decided he wants to try his hand in the furniture business. Trip to Israel! Marshall University Jewish students- The Federated Jewish Charities of Huntington offers free* trips to Israel
“Trip to Israel” program will provide grants of up to $8,000 per person for Huntington Jewish youth ages high school to 28 years on approved trips to Israel. Marshall University Jewish students qualify for this program. Six grants are available in 2013 and 2014. “Taglit Birthright” offers free trips to Israel for Jews 18 to 26 years.
